Short version: a tennis bracelet is a flexible line of identical stones, each in its own setting. We make them to order in Argentium silver with lab-grown diamonds or moissanite, in any stone size and wrist length. The bracelet in the video holds 5.55 ct of lab-grown diamonds in 7.51 g of Argentium 960, 8.62 g in total. Argentium needs no rhodium plating and can be hardened, so every setting keeps its grip.

What a tennis bracelet is

A tennis bracelet is a line of stones of the same size, each in its own small setting, joined so the bracelet moves like fabric around the wrist. It closes with a box clasp, usually with a safety catch.

The name comes from the tennis player Chris Evert, who stopped a match at the 1987 US Open to look for her diamond line bracelet after it fell off her wrist. Since then, any line bracelet like it has been called a tennis bracelet.

Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically the same as mined diamonds. Most tennis bracelets sold today use them, because a line of forty to eighty stones in natural diamond costs many times more for the same look.

Stone size and total carats

Total carat weight depends on the size of each stone and the length of the bracelet. As a guide for a 7-inch bracelet with round stones:

Stone sizeStones, roughlyTotal carats, roughlyLook
2 mm80 to 85about 2.5 ctFine, everyday, stacks well
2.5 mm65 to 70about 4 ctDelicate but clearly visible
3 mm55 to 58about 6 ctThe classic tennis bracelet
4 mm42 to 45about 11 ctBold, popular with men

The bracelet in the video, at 5.55 ct, sits in the classic range. These figures are estimates; your quote gives the exact stone count and carat weight for your size.

Getting the fit right

Measure your wrist just above the wrist bone with a soft tape, or with a strip of paper you then measure flat. Add about 1.5 to 2 cm for a comfortable fit that moves a little, or 1 cm if you like it close.

Most women's tennis bracelets are 6.5 to 7 inches long, and most men's 7.5 to 8.5 inches. Tell us your wrist size and how you like it to sit, and we make it to that length.

Why Argentium silver for a tennis bracelet

Settings that hold. A tennis bracelet has dozens of settings, and one loose prong means a lost stone. Argentium can be heat hardened after it is made, so the prongs keep their grip.

No plating to wear off. Most silver tennis bracelets are rhodium plated to look white. The plating wears at the links and under the clasp, and the colour turns patchy. Argentium is 96 per cent silver, resists tarnish, and needs no plating.

No nickel. Argentium contains no nickel, the most common cause of skin reactions to jewellery, which matters on a piece worn against the wrist all day.

Looking after it

  1. Take it off for the gym, swimming and cleaning. Knocks and chlorine are the main risks to any stone-set piece.
  2. Check the clasp now and then by giving it a gentle tug. A box clasp should close with a clear click.
  3. Clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush, then dry it fully. Lab-grown diamonds and moissanite shine best when clean.
  4. Store it flat in a soft pouch, away from other jewellery that could scratch it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tennis bracelet?

A flexible bracelet made of a single line of identical stones, each in its own setting, closed with a box clasp. The name comes from Chris Evert, who stopped a match at the 1987 US Open to find her diamond line bracelet.

Are lab-grown diamond tennis bracelets real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically the same as mined diamonds, at a fraction of the price, which is why most tennis bracelets now use them.

How many carats is a tennis bracelet?

It depends on stone size and length. For a 7-inch bracelet, 2 mm stones give about 2.5 ct, 3 mm about 6 ct and 4 mm about 11 ct. Our bracelet in the video holds 5.55 ct of lab-grown diamonds.

How much does a silver tennis bracelet weigh?

Our lab-grown diamond tennis bracelet weighs 8.62 g in total: 7.51 g of Argentium silver and 5.55 ct of diamonds. Larger stones and longer lengths weigh more.

Moissanite or lab-grown diamond for a tennis bracelet?

Lab-grown diamond gives the classic diamond look and is real diamond. Moissanite costs less and has more fire. Both are hard enough for daily wear.

What size tennis bracelet should I get?

Measure your wrist and add 1.5 to 2 cm for a comfortable fit. Most women's bracelets are 6.5 to 7 inches and most men's 7.5 to 8.5 inches. We make yours to your length.

Is a silver tennis bracelet good quality?

In Argentium silver, yes. It needs no rhodium plating, resists tarnish, contains no nickel, and can be hardened so the settings hold every stone.

Do you deliver tennis bracelets outside India?

Yes, across India and worldwide, insured and tracked.
